SPARTANBURG, SC – Senior Callum McGuigan carded his second 69 in as many days and finished tied for sixth place while Francis Marion University placed eighth as the Wofford College Invitational Men's Golf Tournament came to a conclusion on Tuesday (April 10).
The tournament was played on the 6,648-yard, par 72 Country Club of Spartanburg course.
Francis Marion was tied for the tournament lead after Monday's opening round, and seventh after the second round before shooting a 295 team score on Tuesday. The Patriots finished with a +10, 874 score – only three strokes outside the Top-5.
East Tennessee State University rallied over the final round to capture the team title with an 843 total. The Buccaneers shot a 276 score during the final round, 12 strokes better than any other squad on Tuesday. The host Terriers finished second at 856, followed by Austin Peay State (858), Army (866), and Appalachian State University (871) and Charleston Southern University (871) to round out the Top 5.
McGuigan finished at 4-under 212 and among a group of four golfers tied for sixth position in the players' standings. His 54-hole total is the lowest of his two seasons as a Patriot and the finish his first Top-10 showing. His Tuesday round was one shy of his career low round as a Patriot and marked the fifth time he has shot 69 while representing FMU.
Senior Marc Casullo shot 73 over the final 18 holes and tied for 16th at 217. Other Francis Marion golfers included freshman Jacob Morris (69-76-77=222) tying for 30th position, senior Alessandro Caselli (72-75-76=223) tying for 34th, and junior Lars Sandvoll (76-79-83=238) placing 55th.
ETSU's Geuntae Kim shot a 6-under 66 to earn medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 11-under-par 205.
Francis Marion will play its final event of the 2017-18 season on April 21-22 at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate Tournament hosted by Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
